Safety measures while carrying your baby in a sling
Be careful passing doorways and corners when you are using the sling. Remember that your body size with your little one is different and you have to get used to it to avoid accidents.
Do not bend having your baby in the sling even if you support him/her with the hand. When you need to lift something from the floor it’s better to squat down.
Remember that the infants are interested in things around and try to reach them with hands. Be aware of dangerous objects close to you carrying your baby.
Remember that the sling is not a substitute for a car or a bicycle sit!
Do not eat hot food and don’t drink hot liquids carrying your baby in the sling. Wait until the meal cools down.
Wear flat not slippery shoes. Do not rush carrying your baby outside and choose safe road which you know well.
General Rules For The Wrap
Before three months – the baby keeps his/her legs curved like in the womb, at this stage it’s recommended to use horizontal positions (different cradle options), also you can use vertical and semi-vertical tummy-to-tummy carry (in “embryo” position).
In horizontal positions your baby’s body should be evenly located, the head is approximately on your breast level. The legs can be hanging down from the knees. Newborns usually completely fit into the carrier.
In vertical and semi-vertical positions the baby’s head should be supported well by the edge of the fabric, the legs should be in.
From three month age or earlier if the infant is ready: doesn’t protest when the legs are spread wide, holds the head well, you can start carrying vertically in classical position with legs out.
In this case the baby’s legs are spread in “froggy” position and they are supported under the knees by the edge of the fabric, the bum is down in the pocket. In vertical position the baby’s legs should be placed symmetrically, the knees are higher than the bottom, feet are turned in different sides.
The wrap fabric should be well spread (in the most carrying positions).
The baby should be snuggled up by the carrier close to you.
In horizontal positions (“Cross over the pouch”, “Cross under the pouch” and others) the baby’s head should be at your breast level as with a ring-sling.
In vertical positions (“Cross over the pouch”, “Back cross under the pouch”, “Simple cross”, “Hip cross” and others) the baby’s legs should be spread in “froggy” position (the knees are higher than the bottom), the wrap fabric should be spread well from one baby’s knee to another (in the positions: “Tibetan back carry”, “Rucksack”, “Kangaroo”, it’s not necessary to spread crossing straps).
The baby should be located symmetrically in vertical positions.
Both you and baby should feel comfortable, the wrap shouldn’t be very tight.
General Rules For the Mei-tai sling
You can carry your baby vertically in an M-position, with his legs out of the carrier, as soon as he prefers it. If he is too small to get a proper seat, you can fold the carrier vertically so it becomes narrower.
You can carry a newborn baby in a horizontal cradle position, but in a mei tai, this position does not permit nursing.
Child under 6 months is better placed in a sling with his hands.
When the hands of the child on the outside, the fabric of the sling should pass under the arms.
The waist strap should rest on your waist and not sliding on the hips
Crossing straps on baby’s back give a more supporting.
We do not recommend carrying your baby facing forward.
